01.1The Course

Now, this is golf.

Playing 7,025 yards from the championship tees, the Fazio design makes use of the area's pastoral setting and distant views. Fairways are generous, with errant bumps nudging drives back into play.

Built into the land

Fazio routed the course through rolling Appalachian terrain rather than across it. Holes fall naturally with the grade, and the long views out to the highlands are part of the design rather than a backdrop to it.

Zoysia fairways hold the ball up cleanly, and Pennlinks bent greens run true through the heat of a Virginia summer.

Bunkers rebuilt the Better Billy way

Every bunker on the course has been rebuilt using the Better Billy Bunker method, a liner system that separates sand from subsoil while letting water drain freely.

The result is firmer, more consistent sand that plays the same in the morning as it does after an afternoon storm — and far less washout to repair after heavy rain.
